HIGH POINT, N.C. – Charleston Southern men's track took third place at the Big South Outdoor Championships with 119 total points scored. The meet concluded on Wednesday evening at Vert Stadium on the campus of High Point University. At the meet's conclusion,
Conan Harper was named Freshman of the Year for scoring the most points of any freshman.
After winning the 10K on Monday, Harper was the runner up in the 5K on Wednesday with a time of 14.39.41. Harper led the Bucs in the event finishing ahead of
Jordan Smith (14:46.37) in third place and
Sam Waldin (14:52.16) in fourth.
Shawn Langley Jr. took home the conference title in the 400 meters. He crossed the line at 46.36 to win gold. Langley Jr. also scored points for the Bucs in the 200 with a fifth place finish at 21.06.
Langley Jr. was joined by
Charlie Easler,
Luciano Custodio, and
Griffin Gillespie in the 4x400 relay. The team finished third with a time of 3:15.15.
Custodio also won a conference championship in the 400 hurdles. He broke the tape at 51.75 to win the title. In the 110 hurdles,
Gus Cortezi placed fifth with a time of 15.23.
In addition to the relay,
Jack McGahey scored in two more events. He placed fifth in the 800 (1:53.00) ahead of
Mason Raasch in eighth (1:56.19). He was also seventh in the 1500 (4:00.09) just ahead of
Steven McCartney in eighth (4:00.85) but behind
Griffin Gillespie in fifth (3:51.55).
