LEXINGTON, KY – Charleston Southern opened their time at the NCAA East Regionals on Wednesday evening in a show-stopping fashion on the campus of the University of Kentucky. The Buccaneers had a pair of student-athletes advance to the finals in their events as well as a pair of school records get broken.
The day began with
Odin Ferency competing in the shot put. He finished 27th at the meet and threw for a new school record, breaking his career best set last month. On Wednesday, he had his best throw go 17.95m (58' 10.75") and slides up to seventh in league history for the event.
Following this, they had the first round of the 100m dash with
Laden Beckwith qualifying through to the quarterfinals in the event. He finished in a tie for 23
rd to claim the final spot in the next round of the event. He had a time of 10.29 (10.282), edging out the 25
th place finisher from moving on by .006 of a second. Later in the evening, he ran in the 200m dash and had a time of 20.77 barely missing out on the next round as he claimed 26
th overall and was 0.03 of a second away from 24
th.
Aden Price was final Buccaneer to compete during the opening day. He ran in the 400m and ran a personal best and school record time of 45.66 in the first round. His time placed him 17
th of the entrees at the meet, taking fourth in his heat. Price remains fourth in league history in the event.
Looking ahead, Beckwith and Price will compete in the national quarterfinals for their events on Friday evening. Beckwith will run in the second heat of the 100m from lane nine with an anticipated start time of 6:35 p.m. Price's 400m is scheduled to be held immediately after around 6:50 p.m. with him running in lane three in the first heat. In each of these events, the top three finishers in each of the three heats plus the next three fastest times will move forward to compete in the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon from June 10-13.
