COLUMBIA, S.C. – Charleston Southern began their February slate of meets on Saturday at the USC Invitational with
Jaden Kingsley's dazzling performance in the mile headlining the men's performances at the meet.
Kinglsey competed in the one mile at the meet, leading a trio of Buccaneer athletes in the event. He took the victory with a time of 4:04.08 for the second-fastest time in school history and 8
th in conference history. In second overall was
Sam Waldin who finished with a 4:09.80 to move into 8
th all-time in program history.
Zack Wedding also had a strong race taking 4
th with a 4:16.74.
Another set of strong performances came in the 200m dash. Shawn Langley Jr took 5
th overall in the event and set a personal best in it with a 21.47 and remain at 5
th in school's records for it.
Carl Murray IV was close to breaking into the top ten as he set a personal best at 21.87. Langley also was 5
th in the 400 with a time of 47.88 for a season best.
The Buccaneers also continued to show their dominance in distance events in the 3000 with there being three CSU athletes in the top five.
Conan Harper was second and
Griffin Gillespie was third with times of 8:24.40 and 8:25.98.
In the throwing events,
Michael Calhoun was third in the shot put with a season best throw of 16.79. Freshman
Odin Ferency had his best career outing with personal bests in the shot put and weight throw. His throw of 14.27 in the shot put slotted him at 10
th all-time in CSU history.
Charleston Southern will be off next weekend as they prepare for their regular season finale with the USC Open on Saturday, February 17. The following weekend is the Big South Championship from Friday, February 23-24 in Blacksburg, Virginia on the campus of Virginia Tech.
