Charleston Southern volleyball opens their 2021 spring schedule Saturday and Sunday with Winthrop. Charleston Southern plays a 16-match spring slate, all inside Big South play with two-game series against each conference member. This year's regular-season champion will earn the Big South's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

Paige Reagor and Emilee Karelse made impressive debuts as freshmen in 2019 making the Big South All-Freshman Team. Karlese finished the 2019 season with 734 assists averaging 7.65 per set and recorded three matches with 50-plus assists. Reagor led the Bucs in hitting percentage and had 183 kills while blocking 105 attempts.

Head Coach David McFatrich enters his second season at the helm bringing in six newcomers – Kaileigh Ammons, Angelika Rusin, Layla Sarvis, Indigo Young, Dayana Chara and Peyton Thompson.

Seven athletes return from the 2019 squad that finished 14-15 overall and 6-8 in Big South play earning the No. 6 seed in the Big South Championships before falling to Campbell in the quarterfinal round. I their lone meeting with UNC Asheville, the Bulldogs swept 3-0 inside the Justice Center.

Winthrop enters the spring as the defending Big South Champions behind a 14-0 record and was named the Preseason No. 2 squad in the Coach's Preseason Poll just three points behind High Point. Nikkia Benitez (Sr., OH) and Morga Bossler (Sr., MB) were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team as the Eagles return

Winthrop returns 10 athletes from their 2019 Big South Championship squad that finished 24-5 overall and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Saturday and Sunday mark the 93rd and 94th meetings all-time between two of the Big South's founding members. Both matches are set for 2 p.m. starts and will be available on ESPN+.
