Sixteen Buccaneers See Action as CSU Knocks Off Mercer

MACON, GA – Charleston Southern closed the Mercer Invitational with a four-set victory over hosting Mercer Bears on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bears 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23) at Hawkins Arena.

The Buccaneers improved to 8-5 on the season with the victory, closing the weekend on a high note while receiving contributions from throughout the lineup. In all, 16 of CSU's 18 players saw action in the four-set finale.

Charleston Southern finished the match with 49 kills, 75 digs, seven service aces and seven total blocks. The Buccaneers also held a 75-66 advantage in digs while limiting Mercer to a .135 hitting percentage.

Notables:

  • CSU's win over Mercer marked its eighth victory of the season, concluding non-conference play with an 8-5 record (.615 win percentage). The Buccaneers' non-conference performance marks the best of Head Coach Carry Brown's tenure and gives the program its best season start since 2019, when CSU also recorded eight victories through non-conference play.

  • Freshman Brynn Minter continued her standout weekend with a team-high 15 kills, adding 11 digs, two assists and 15.5 points. Minter also recorded multiple kills in each of the first three sets before CSU's balanced attack helped secure the final frame.

  • Presley Morris anchored CSU's defensive effort with a match-high 23 digs, while adding five assists and a service ace.

  • Adeline Wieler contributed 18 digs, seven assists and two service aces, giving the Bucs two players in double figures defensively.

  • Offensively, Emersyn Reiter posted 10 kills on 21 attacks with a .333 hitting percentage in two sets of action.

  • Tristin Sutton distributed 16 assists while adding 11 digs and two service aces.

  • Kylee Roberts added five kills on 10 attacks with a .400 hitting percentage.

  • CSU's defense held Mercer to a .135 team hitting percentage. The Buccaneers also held a 75-66 advantage in digs and committed just six reception errors compared to Mercer's seven.

Up Next:

The Bucs will begin Big South Conference play when they face the Presbyterian Blue Hose at 6:00 PM on September 25th. The match will be played in Clinton, South Carolina and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
