FRIPP ISLAND – Charleston Southern took the lead in the final round of stroke play on Tuesday afternoon, earning the top seed for Wednesday's rounds of match play. The Bucs finished with a team score of +50, beating out #2 High Point who had a +51 across the three days.
The Buccaneers had team scores of 307, 301 and 306 for their total of 914. After the first and second rounds, they sat in third in the tournament field. In the final round, they had a score of +18, the lowest of the day among the nine teams in the field.
Katie Stephens was the top finisher for the squad with her score of +6 to be the individual runner-up. Her best round came on the second day with her even round of 72.
Odette Font Garcia was third overall in the field with her +7 and had her best score in the second as well with a 73. Each of them earned a spot on the All-Championship team for their placement in the top five at the field at the event.
Eugenie Varet also had a tremendous week as she claimed eighth at +13.
Isabella Galla rounded out the team's scoring four with her week of +24.
Chayse Cool played in the first day and was subbed out for
Paige Zolciak for the last two rounds.
High Point's Julia McLaughlin was the individual champion with a total score of +4, earning the league's automatic bid as an individual to the NCAA Regionals. Grace Addison and Carolina rounded out the All-Championship Team in fourth and fifth with scores of +9 and+10.
Charleston Southern will tee off in the Semifinals of match play at 8 a.m. against #4 UNC Asheville with them teeing off on the first hole. In the other semifinal, it will be #2 High Point facing #3 Radford beginning at 8:05 a.m. from hole 10. The finals will feature the winners of each semifinal beginning approximately at 1:30 p.m. from hole one with the victor earning the Big South's automatic team bid to the NCAA Regionals.
