Akagi, Buglass Highlights Women's Team Performances at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH – Charleston Southern sent their distance crew and throwers to compete in one of the nation's best annual meets, the Raleigh Relays this weekend. It was held from Thursday-Saturday with North Carolina State University playing host for it.

Anne Akagi and Freya Buglass each had a great weekend at the meet racing in the 800 and 1500 at the meet. On Friday she ran in the 1500 and set a new personal best in the distance with a time of 4:33.74, winning her heat. It marks a second-and-a-half PB keeps her at second in school history in the event. Buglass recorded a time of 4:37.57 in the event and now sits in 6th in CSU history for the event. Both runners ran their 800s in the 2:13s.

Layla Senter, Zemaya Carson and Josie Ankney each traveled for the throwing events and battled through tough conditions in them. Senter had a great showing in the hammer on Saturday having her best attempt be her first in it with a mark of 49.09m, just two meters off her personal best.

The team returns to the track from Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13 to compete in the Duke Invitational. During this weekend, the team's throwers will make a short drive to Orangeburg, S.C. for the Sharona-Coleman Singleton Classic.
