COLUMBIA – Charleston Southern concluded their time at the Weems Baskin Invitational on Saturday evening. The team had a lot of high-quality performances on the track with student-athletes putting themselves into the school record books as they had new top ten times.
The Buccaneers'
Austyn Koppe and
Chloe Greene showed out in the 100m hurdles with each advancing to the finals in the event. Koppe ran 13.95 for a season best while Greene notched a personal best with a time of 14.22.
In the 200m,
Amaya Johnson took 6
th overall in the event with a time of 24.17.
One of the team's top performers of the day came in the 400m as
Maddie St. Louis took 7
th in the event with her crossing the line at 56.07. Her mark places her as 10
th all-time in school history for the event as well.
In the 400m hurdles, Charleston Southern had three of the top five finishers in it.
Jewel Ash broke the one-minute barrier with her time of 59.93.
Brenda du Toit had a 63.63 and
Grenisha Thomas had a 62.30.
Charliza Antia had a quality run in the 1500 and finished with a time of 4:51.91 taking third overall.
Greene also competed in the long jump at the meet, qualifying for the invite section in the event. She took 5
th place and had her best mark be a 5.78m, just shy of 19 feet at 18'11.75". This places her at 5
th all-time in school history for the outdoor long jump.
The throwers had three different top-eight performances in the field on Saturday.
Zemaya Carson came in 4
th in the discus with a 46.08m best throw.
Layla Senter and Carson placed 6
th and 7
th had their best heaves at 13.60m and 13.55m.
Sarah Jacobs and
Avery Bender closed out the individual events for the day in the 5K and took 2
nd and 3
rd overall and each running personal bests. Jacobs had a time of 18:04.95 which ranks as the 10
th fastest in school history and Bender crossed the line at 18:19.90.
The day came to an end with the running of the 4x400. Charleston Southern finished in second with their time of 3:43.87 which ranks as 5
th in program history. They had Johnson, Ash, Greene and Thomas making up the squad.
The Buccaneers are back in action next weekend with the team splitting up as they will be heading to Florida and N.C. State for meets from March 28 through March 30. Many of the team's top sprinters will be competing in the Florida Relays while the top distance guys will be at the Raleigh Relays.
