Women's Golf Opens 2023 Season with 4th-place Finish at Golfweek Fall Challenge

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Charleston Southern women's golf opened their fall season at the 2023 Golfweek Fall Challenge taking a fourth-place finish at the event. The Buccaneers placed a pair of golfers in the top six at the event as Caroline Engelbredt and Katie Stephens both fired totals at the tournament at or below par.
 
The team played steadily over each of the three rounds between Sunday and Tuesday shooting 290, 289 and 291 for a total of +18. UNCW took the overall team title at +10 with Lipscomb right behind at +11 and the Bucs a stroke behind of third-place New Mexico State at +17.
 
Engelbredt led the squad with her total score of one under at the event and was tied for fourth overall in the field. She shot a 69 (-2) in the first round and then had a 71 and 72 to round out the season opener. Stephens fired her best round of the event on Monday in round 2 with a 68 which tied for the lowest score of the entire field of 101 players that day.
 
Madison Freeman was next on the team who had a steady outing (73-73-72) finishing in a tie for 20th. Odette Font and Elsie Verhoeven rounded out the Buccaneers' opening tournament finishing at 15 over and 26 over for the three-day event.
 
Charleston Southern returns to the course next week as they head to the Elon Invitational to be competed on September 18-19. It will be hosted at Alamance Country Club in Burlington, N.C.
