ROCK HILL, S.C. – Charleston Southern senior Rozzie Johnson finished first in the 100-meter prelims as five Bucs qualified for Saturday's finals on day two of the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Johnson, who has earned a second place finish and two third-place showings in the 100-meter through the first three conference meets of his career, ran in 10.62 seconds to top the 19-man field. Teammate Braxton Drummond finished sixth with a time of 10.87 seconds to earn a spot in Saturday's finals, scheduled to take place at 2:30 p.m.
Sophomore Jared Jeter provided another high note for coach Roosevelt Lofton and the Bucs with a second place showing and a 47.96 second time in the 400-meter prelims. Jeter entered the event with the top mark of the season in the Big South and 12th best in the country. He also will compete in tomorrow's 200-meter finals thanks to a seventh place showing in the 200-meter prelims. Johnson will compete alongside him in that event, as he placed third in the 23-man field with a time of 21.70 seconds.
CSU senior Richie German followed up off a strong showing in Friday's hammer throw with a sixth place finish in the shot put. German threw 14.85 meters on his sixth toss to finish sixth out of 24 competitors. The Bucs' Jacob Moore, meanwhile, placed 11th.
In the javelin, Cameron Dominy placed 10th with a throw of 49.32 meters while Clarence Gallop and Atley Hammond finished 13th and 15th, respectively.
As a team, CSU currently ranks fifth with 25 points. Leading the way is Liberty with 103 points, followed by High Point with 42 points.
