JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Charleston Southern sprinters Rozzie Johnson and Jared Jeter captured individual titles in the 200 and 400-meter dashes to lead the Bucs at Friday's North Florida Invite.
Johnson bested the field in the 200-meter with a time of 21.66 seconds, narrowly beating out the second-place Jeter by .05 seconds. Sophomore Alex Phillips also put forth a strong showing in the event, racing to a sixth place finish with a time of 22.13 seconds.
Jeter, who won the 400-meter dash at last month's Big South Indoor Championships, ran in 47.54 seconds to pace a field of 23 competitors.
CSU and first-year head coach Roosevelt Lofton also received yet another individual championship from junior Braxton Drummond in the long jump. Drummond jumped just .07 meters off the mark that earned him Division 1 First Team All-American status at the NCAA Indoor Championships two weeks ago. He jumped 7.63 meters to win the event.
The Bucs also received more strong performances from their throwing squad. Cleveland German finished fourth in both the hammer throw and shot put, while Clarence Gallop placed in a tie for fourth in the hammer throw. Malik Graham, meanwhile, placed sixth and seventh in the shot put and hammer throw.
The North Florida Invite continues Saturday morning and concludes in the afternoon.
