Drummond sets Big South record in long jump victory at Alex Wilson Invitational

SOUTH BEND, IND. – Charleston Southern's Braxton Drummond won the long jump with a personal best distance of 7.71 meters to lead the Bucs in the Alex Wilson Invitational on the campus of the University of Notre Dame on Saturday.

Drummond, a junior from Spartanburg, S.C., now heads into next weekend's Big South Conference Championships in style after jumping 7.71 meters to best foes from the likes of Purdue, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Notre Dame. The jump is the 12th best mark on the Division I Performance List this season. He won both 200M preliminaries and the long jump at last season's conference indoor championships.

Senior Rozzie Johnson was the other competitor for head coach Roosevelt Lofton and the Bucs in the elite field. He finished fifth in the 60M dash, running in 6.97 seconds.

CSU now sets its sights on next weekend's Big South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Blacksburg, Va. Competition will take place Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1.
