CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern junior guard Tyonna Bailey earned the first Big South Player of the Week honors of her career following a standout opening week of conference play, it was announced Monday afternoon.
Bailey put together a phenomenal stretch to lead the Buccaneers to a perfect 2-0 start in Big South action and a 2-1 overall record on the week. She opened the week Monday at Georgia by scoring a game-high 19 points to go along with three rebounds. Bailey followed with a dominant performance at USC Upstate on Wednesday, erupting for 28 points while adding six rebounds and two steals, propelling CSU to a 60-49 victory in its conference opener.
The junior capped the week with another game-high 19-point effort at Radford on Saturday, willing the Buccaneers to a 17-point comeback victory on the road. Bailey scored five points in the fourth quarter, including three clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the win. She also tied her career high with nine rebounds and dished out three assists. Her performance helped Charleston Southern secure its first win at Radford since 2010 and its first 2-0 start to Big South play since the 2020-21 season.
Bailey and the Buccaneers will continue Big South Conference play this week on Wednesday, January 7 as they take on Longwood at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+ in the Buc Dome.
