CLEMSON – The Buccaneer men traveled to Clemson for the second time this season and competed in the Orange & Purple Invite. The schedule was moved to be completed almost entirely on Friday after originally being scheduled for Friday-Saturday due to the impending winter weather across the country.
One of the best parts of the meet for the men came in the sprints.
Laden Beckwith, a now dual-sport student-athlete, made his collegiate debut on the track after the fall as a wide receiver on the football team. He first ran in the 60m prelims and had a time of 6.81 to place him on the school's all-time top ten for the event and ran even faster in the semifinals. His time of 6.74 in that round places him at fourth in school history for the event. In the finals, he ran another 6.81 and claimed second in the heat at the meet.
Also amongst the group was
Aden Price who ran a 21.33 in the 200m and a 47.96 in the 400m. Those times come in at fifth and seventh in the record books for the distances to continue his dominant start to his collegiate career.
Jayden Anderson ran another personal best in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.45 in the prelims to jump to sixth in school history.
Another string of strong performances came from the men's 3K group.
Martin Iriondo had a personal best of 8:11.42 to slide into fourth in school history and was the event's individual runner-up at the meet.
Griffin Gillespie claimed third overall in the field and had a time of 8:18.42.
In the field,
Odin Ferency threw a season best in the shot put with a heave of 15.66m to take eighth in the field.
Tarrell Miles had a career best in the weight throw, placing him at ninth in school history with his 17.58m. The throw came on Thursday with that being the lone event not held on Friday.
In the 800m, Collin and
Kaden Kleinhen each ran season bests with their times of 1:53.96 and 1:55.04.
Rogan Arriaga and
George Rowland highlighted the squad's outing in the one mile with their times of 4:17.90 and 4:21.04. In the relays, the 4x400m squad had a time of 3:21.51 while the distance medley relay of Gillespie, Beckwith,
Liam O'Donnell and
Caleb Kenyon had a 10:07.28 for the seventh-fastest in program history.
Charleston Southern will now enjoy another weekend off in the coming days before traveling to Blacksburg, Virginia for the Doc Hale Invite hosted by Virginia Tech. The meet is scheduled to be held from Friday, February 6 through Saturday, February 7.
