ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A 70th-minute own goal proved to be the difference as Charleston Southern women's soccer earned a 1-0 victory at UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon to open Big South Conference play.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Buccaneers continued to pressure coming out of the break. The breakthrough came just past the hour mark when a Bulldog own goal gave CSU a 1-0 lead.
 
Goalkeeper Avery Mason anchored the Buccaneer defense with seven saves to secure her second shutout of the year. CSU finished with nine shots, including four on target, while holding a 54% edge in possession.
 
The match saw physical play throughout, with 18 total fouls and one yellow card issued to the Buccaneers. Charleston Southern also generated six corner kicks to Asheville's five, keeping consistent pressure in the attacking third.
