CHARLESTON – Thursday afternoon, Charleston Southern would play their first of three contests at the 2025 Big Orange Bash hosted by Clemson University – their first match-up, the Norfolk State Spartans. The Bucs would sweep NSU (25-19, 25-18, 25-23), a team they were swept by just last season.
A 7-0 run would give the Bucs an early 14-9 lead in set one of Thursday's match. Three of the seven points scored during the run would be kills by the eventual Player of the Match, Buccaneer co-team captain Emily Struckmeyer. A 6-2 run by CSU would secure the first of three set wins for the Bucs.
The momentum from set one would carry over into the second as Charleston Southern would head into the media time-out period up 15-8. Two Faith Burch kills, both assisted by Cara McLean, would finish off the set, in favor of CSU, 25-18.
Set three would be a bit more competitive, featuring 9 lead changes or ties. A block by CSU's Emma Bednarek and Oliwia Durka would tie the set at 23. Point 24 would be a Faith Burch-kill and the final point being kill number 10 for Emily Struckmeyer – giving the Buccaneers' their sixth win of the season.
