Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

CSU Takes Set Off Undefeated Tigers Friday Night

CHARLESTON – Friday, Charleston Southern volleyball would take the court against both the Georgetown Hoyas and Clemson Tigers for the final day of the 2025 Big Orange Bash event in Tigertown. CSU would win the first set in both matches, but would fall to both opponents in four sets.

The first set with Georgetown would be an offensive showcase for several Bucs including true freshman Emersyn Reiter who would go on to lead CSU in the kill column (11) in the match. A 6-0 run would put the Bucs ahead by seven well into the set (16-9). That cushion would be too much to overcome as CSU would take set one 25-22 over the Hoyas.

Set number two would not result in the same fashion as several three-point runs and consistent execution would even the match at one set a piece as the Hoyas secured a 25-17 set two victory.

Despite a very early lead in set three for the Bucs, a 9-1 run by Georgetown for the 13-9 lead would never be overcome – Hoyas win set three, 25-22.

Despite late service aces from CSU underclassmen, Cara McLean and Kylee Roberts, the match's fourth set would mirror the third – Georgetown winning the set 25-22 and the match 3-1, giving CSU their fifth loss of the 2025 campaign.

Less than four hours later, the VolleyBucs would take the floor again, this time against the hosting program, the undefeated Clemson Tigers. This would be the 13th all-time match-up between the two Palmetto State institutions with the last meeting happening over ten years ago (August 2015).

The first two points of the match would be courtesy of sophomore Tristin Sutton who assisted on point one and killed the second one herself. A 4-0 run by the Tigers would regain the Clemson lead (4-2). An assist, two kills, and a block by CSU's Emmy Rollins would regain the Buccaneer-lead (7-6). Heading into the media time-out, a packed out Jervey Gymnasium crowd would find the home team down 13-15. A 6-3 CSU run, capped by an Oliwia Durka kill, would finish the set 25-23 – the Bucs' fifth all-time set win over the ACC program.

Unwavering execution by the Tigers would show up in the match's remaining sets. A 6-1 run to open set number two would never be looked back on by the home squad – Clemson taking set two 25-13. A 9-0 run in set three would give the Tigers another 25-13 victory. A better fight by Charleston Southern would get them closer to the 20-point threshold in set four, but Clemson would ultimately take the set 25-18, completing their undefeated non-conference slate.

Notables:

  • Against Georgetown, sophomore Tristin Sutton would lead the Bucs in both assists (23) and digs (18).

  • Those 18 digs are a new career-high for the Chattanooga-native setter.

  • Emersyn Reiter would lead CSU in kills (11) against Georgetown, a new career-high for the true freshman.

  • Reigning Big South Libero of the Week, Presley Morris would record her 200th dig of the season against Georgetown.

  • Against Clemson, Presley Morris would record 23 digs (nine short of her career-high). The match would mark Morris' 10th time leading CSU in digs this season.

Up Next:

After 24 days away from match-play in their home gym, Charleston Southern will host the South Carolina State Bulldogs on September 23rd. The match will be CSU's Staff Appreciation Night as the Bucs honor and welcome all Charleston Southern faculty. The Bucs competed against SCSU just six days ago at the 2025 Bash at the Beach event in Daytona Beach, Florida – CSU would win in three sets. The Tuesday evening contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ at 6:00 PM.
