CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern overcame an early deficit on Thursday afternoon in their final nonconference game ahead of Big South play next week. The Buccaneers prevailed with a 4-2 scoreline over crosstown rival in The Citadel.
The Bulldogs got out ahead early with a goal by Alice Williamson in the second minute and held on to the advantage for majority of the half.
Just before the end of the half, Charleston Southern earned a free kick down to the left of the goal.
Claire DeAngelis sent it into the middle of the box and was able to find
Hailey Swenson who put it in the back of the net just before the break to get it level and net her first goal of her Buccaneer career.
In the second half, it was all Buccaneers as they tallied three unanswered goals in a 15 minute-span with a pair by Jenéa Knight giving them the lead at 2-1 and then pushing it to 3-1 later off an assist by Swenson.
Cadance Bell tallied the first of her career off a free kick from
Rowyn Serne to push the score to 4-1. The Bulldogs' Didi Turay got one back in the closing minutes to make the final score 4-2.
Mason collected four saves in the contest, while CSU outshot the Bulldogs 11-7 overall.
