CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's soccer team began Big South play on a tear, defeating the Winthrop Eagles 4-1 on Wednesday.
Four different players scored for the Buccaneers (9-5-4, 1-0-0 in conference), and each of them came in the first half. It was the most goals scored in one half for the Buccaneers since scoring six in the first half against Brewton Parker in 2022.
Fiama Hidalgo got things started for Charleston Southern, scoring on a header off of a corner kick from
Gracen Beilstein within the first four minutes of the match.
Elin Persson also had an assist on the play. At the 11:57 mark of the first half,
Danika Birch continued her impressive freshman season with her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Delaney Evers had the assist.
Just under one minute later, Birch was back for more, setting up
Reese Beggs with her first goal of the season with an assist from the left side of the field that led to a header for Beggs. Final, in the 35
th minute, Persson scored her second goal of the season, as a free kick from
Sydney Thomas went off the top of the crossbar, and Persson was there to score on another header.
Winthrop (3-5-0, 0-1-0 in conference) scored one goal in the 85
th minute to break the shutout. They put up 12 shots (7 SOG) overall and nine shots in the second half. Charleston Southern put up eight shots in each half and had eight shots on goal for the afternoon.
Jenna Moran finished with six saves.

The next home match for the Buccaneers will be next Wednesday, October 2nd, as they will host Presbyterian at 3 PM at CSU Soccer Field. The two teams tied 1-1 last season in Clinton
