Charleston – The Buccaneers' Head Coach for Men's and Women's Golf, Chan Metts, announced his resignation on Thursday afternoon to accept a position at Appalachian State University to become the Head Coach for Women's Golf.
Metts departs after leading the Charleston Southern women's team to a Big South Championship and NCAA Regional appearance this past spring. He was named the Big South Women's Golf Coach of the Year at the conference's tournament and had six student-athletes receive All-Conference accolades.
Metts' was hired in July of 2023 to oversee each of the school's programs. He arrived in Charleston after a five-year stop at Western Kentucky University. Prior to that, he had spent time at Georgia Southern University and the University of Sioux Falls.
Each of the Buccaneers' programs will begin their 2024 fall season at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in Pawley's Island, South Carolina which will be held from September 7-10.
A nationwide search for the next leader of the Charleston Southern men's and women's golf programs will begin immediately.
