ROCK HILL, S.C. – Charleston Southern concluded their weekend trip at Winthrop on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles were able to claim the victory by a 3-0 final score.
The Eagles were able to claim the first two sets with scores of 25-14 and 25-7 to jump to an early 2-0 advantage. The Buccaneers switched offensive schemes and liberos between the sets as well.
In the third, CSU switched to a different player as libero again with
Angelika Rusin as it. The Buccaneers were able to gain a big edge in service aces with three of the first six CSU points being off them and claim a quick 6-4 lead. The teams traded points the rest of the way and CSU was able to tie it at 20 apiece and eventually claim a 23-21 edge, but the Eagles tallied four unanswered and were able to hold on to claim the sweep.
Giada Pais-Marden led the team in kills with six.
Jyriah Morgan and
Faith Burch each finished the afternoon with five.
Mallory Neale led the team in assists as she had nine with
Ilaria Durante close behind with eight.
Skylar Yates had the team-high in digs as she finished with 12 and Durante was next on the team with eight.
Presley Morris finished with six, collecting most of hers during the opening set of day.
Mallory Neale had six as well, having hers mostly come in the second frame.
The Buccaneers will be back in action on Friday, October 27 as they host UNC Asheville at 6:00 p.m. The game is designated as the team's senior night with Pais-Marden, Rusin and
Indigo Young to be honored.
