Volleyball Sweeps UNC Asheville on Senior Night

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern cruised to a three-set sweep of UNC Asheville on Friday Night in the Buc Dome as the season begins to wind down. The match also marked senior day for the Buccaneers with the team seeing huge performances from their active pair of players in Giada Pais-Marden and Angelika Rusin.

The Buccaneers were able to build a big 18-9 lead in the first set, but saw the Bulldogs fight their way back into it, eventually forcing it to be tied at 22 apiece. The Bucs were able to tally the final pair of points to get the first at 26-24.

In the second and the third sets, Charleston Southern continued to take major control in the match, build big leads off one of the team's best overall games during conference play. They won the second by a score of 25-17 and followed it with a 25-20 decision.

Pais-Marden lead the team in kills with ten and had Skylar Yates and Emmy Rollins close behind with nine and seven. Ilaria Durante dished 22 assists on the night to surpass 1000 for her career, becoming just the 13th Buccaneer to eclipse that mark. Charleston Southern also was able to generate eight points from service aces on the night with Presley Morris leading the team in the stat with three.

Rusin had the team-high in receptions with 18 while Durante lead the team in digs with 12. Yates also had a solid night in digs with seven while Rusin and Faith Burch each added five. The Bucs had three players each finish with a pair of blocks in Jyriah Morgan, Emily Struckmeyer and Rollins.

After tonight's victory the Bucs now stand at 3-7 within conference play as they continue their quest for a big to the Big South Tournament. Tomorrow will mark their home finale for 2023 with first serve for Saturday's match with USC Upstate slated for 2:00 p.m. Before and during the contest, the team will be having a Costume Contest as well with the winner of it to receive CSU volleyball merch.
