Men's Golf

Round two of NCAA Regional complete

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Charleston Southern men's golf closed out round two play at the NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional Tuesday, falling back two places into 13th place at the PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The Buccaneers are making their fifth NCAA Regional trip in program history.

TARVER REMAINS IN TEAM LEAD
Starting on hole No. 10, freshman Griffin Tarver continued to set the pace among his CSU teammates through 36 holes after his opening-round 1-over 73 put him high on the individual leaderboard. He followed it up with a second-round 5-over par 77 to earn a share of 34th place.

Tarver's second 18 holes was highlighted by three birdies and seven pars. He came in under par on three of the longest holes of the layout, the par-5, 545-yard No. 10; the par-5, 556-yard No. 18 and the par-5, 488-yard No. 6. It marked the second-straight round in which he posted a birdie on No. 6.

SMITH BOUNCES BACK
The best score improvement by any Bucs player came off the clubs of Alan Smith, who carded a 5-over 77 to match Tarver Tuesday. It was a six-stroke difference from his opening round, buoyed by three birdies which came on the par-4, 434-yard No. 16; the par-4, 365-yard No. 1 and the par-3, 171-yard No. 5. Five of his nine pars came on the back nine after starting on No. 10, including three-in-a-row from No. 12 through No. 14.

CARROLL FINDING MAGIC ON NO. 18
As the only Charleston Southern player to register an eagle in Monday's first round, Ben Carroll landed the honor once again Tuesday with his second-straight two-under score on No. 18. The two eagles for CSU are tied for the tops among any team in the field, along with San Diego, No. 40 USF and No. 10 Florida.

Carroll supported it in the second round with four-straight pars to begin the morning and adding three more on the front nine after making the turn. His front nine also featured birdies on the par-5, 538-yard No. 3 and the par-4, 427-yard No. 8. It was his second-consecutive round garnering a birdie on No. 3.

PAR-HEAVY ROUND FOR WILLIS
Ethan Willis added 11 pars to his resume, including the longest stretch of any Bucs player, Tuesday. The first four came on the back nine, as he opened on No. 10, and he wrapped two of them around his only birdie, on the par-4, 465-yard No. 14. Once making the turn to the front, however, was where he displayed his most consistency, tallying seven among the nine holes, including each of the last-six holes of the day.

LOUDIN EQUALS WILLIS AS TEAM LEADER IN PARS
The other remaining Buccaneer on the course was Caleb Loudin, who registered a team-best equaling 11 pars to go along with two birdies to fall just out of contributing to the team score. His birdies were on the par-4, 388-yard No. 13 and on No. 6. He had three spans of three pars in-a-row, including his first three-holes, No. 10-12, then again two times after making the turn to the front nine, from No. 1-3 and again No. 7-9 as his day wrapped up.
