CHARLESTON, S.C. – Layla Senter captured a pair of first-place titles, including a school-record mark in the shot put, to highlight the Charleston Southern women's track & field team performances Friday at the CSU Throws and Distance Challenge at the Bagwell-Settle Track in the Buccaneers' lone home meet of the campaign.
SENTER SHINES WITH TWO TOP MARKS
Carrying the momentum with her from the indoor season, Senter wasted little time putting an early stamp on the outdoor campaign with the top mark in both of the events in which she competed. In the shot put, she bettered the field of four participants with a school-record toss of 14.63m (48'). The distance also places her among the Big South's all-time Top 10 list.
Earlier in the afternoon, she led the small field in the hammer throw with a heave of 46.70m (153'2"). It sparked a 1-2-3 finish in the event for CSU, as
Emily Danielsson placed second at 45.36m (148'10") and
Kaitlyn Migneault registered a personal-record 41.73m (136'11") to take third.
ANOTHER EVENT TITLE
Migneault's strongest event of the day was in the discus, as she captured first in the discus with a mark of 40.01m (131'3").
OTHER BUCS IN ACTION
Two other members of the Charleston Southern roster competed for the first time in the track season after skipping indoor.
Hannah Siefken moved into the program's Top-10 chart with a third-place toss of 31.84m (104'5") in the javelin, while also setting a personal record in the discus.
Emily Danielsson was the runner-up to Senter in the hammer with her heave of 45.36m (148'10").
MCCARTNEY LEADS PACK
In the track events,
Sarah McCartney led a sweep of the top-three places in the 1500 meters with her time of 4:43.98. She edged out teammates
Zanelle Willemse (4:48.19) and
Keerstin Augustin (4:58.66) in the event as all three set new personal records. McCartney's time moved her into fifth on the program's all-time list.
ONLY TWO WERE IN BLUE AND GOLD
In a shortened steeplechase event, covering only 2000 meters,
Sommer McKenzie and
Anne Akagi clocked times of 7:13.61 and 7:15.18 to take the only two spots as they were the lone participants.
UP NEXT
The Bucs will return to action next weekend when they travel up the coast to Myrtle Beach for the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational Friday and Saturday.
