VolleyBucs Head Home for Final Two Games of Season

The Charleston Southern volleyball team will play at the Buc Dome for the final time this season on Thursday against the Presbyterian Blue Hose as well as Friday night against the Winthrop Eagles. Both matches will have a 6 p.m. start time.

The Buccaneers (14-14, 7-7 in conference) come into this week's matches winners of three straight after going undefeated last weekend against UNC Asheville and USC Upstate. They need just one win this week to clinch the fourth and final spot in the Big South Tournament next weekend in High Point, NC.

Presbyterian
This will be the second time that the Blue Hose and Bucs will square off this season. Charleston Southern won the first battle 3-1 back on October 15 in Clinton. The Blue Hose come in with a record of 8-18 (4-10) and are 3-8 on the road. Last weekend, they picked up a win against UNC Asheville, but before that, they had lost three in a row.

Korrinn Burgess is the leader of the Presbyterian volleyball team. She is in her tenth season as the Head Coach in Clinton, having taken over the program in 2013. Since taking over for the Blue Hose, she has made multiple trips to the Big South Conference Championship. Win a win on Thursday, the Bucs will tie the overall series record with the Blue Hose at 17. Currently, Presbyterian has the one-game lead.

Winthrop
The Eagles come into this week with a 15-10 (11-3) record. They are third in the conference, just one match back of Campbell and High Point and are looking to improve their seeding in the Big South Tournament as they have already clinched a spot. Winthrop has won two matches in a row against USC Upstate and Gardner-Webb. In both of those matches, they did not lose a single set.

In their matchup wth CSU on October 14, the Eagles swept the Bucs 3-0 in Rock Hill. They have dominated the overall series with the Buccaneers, having won 61 of the 78 matches between the two teams.

The Eagles are led by Heather Gearhart, who is in her first season as Interim Head Coach in Rock Hill. She was an assistant on last year's team that won 18 matches and made it to the semi-finals of the Big South Tournament. She is in her third season overall at Winthrop.

Charleston Southern
The Bucs have been led by a plethora of talent this season, including Indigo Young, who has a conference best .374 hitting percentage. Angelika Rusin continues to lead the Big South in digs, averaging 4.75 per set.

Despite missing time this season, Emilee Karelse has 740 assists this season, averaging 9.02 per set. That is second best in the conference. Lastly, Peyton Thompson is second in the conference in two categories; kills (3.71 per set) and points per set (4.30).

Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ this week. On Friday, the Bucs will be honoring three players that will be playing in their final home matches this week and moving on after this season. Those three players are Thompson, Karelse and Madison McNally. Fans are encouraged to get there early, as those three will be honored before the match against Winthrop
