VolleyBucs Prepare for Postseason Play in the Big South Tournament

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern Buccaneers have earned a spot in the Big South tournament as the fourth seed. They will battle the top-seeded Campbell Fighting Camels in the first round at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

This is the first time that the VolleyBucs (15-15, 8-8 in conference) have qualified for the tournament since 2019, when they faced the Fighting Camels and were swept in three sets. Charleston Southern is looking for its first win in the Big South Tournament since 2010.

Camels Making History
Led by Big South Coach of the Year, Greg Goral, the Fighting Camels finished the regular season with an 18-10 record (14-2 in conference). They won their first Big South regular season conference title in program history. This comes a year after clinching the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

The Fighting Camels had a school record eight players receive Big South honors, including three players that were named first-team all-conference. Melody Paige was named Conference Player of the Year. It was the first time that at least two players have received first-team honors in program history.

Campbell won both matches this season against Charleston Southern, winning in five sets at the Buc Dome back on September 24 and winning 3-1 in Buies Creek on October 20. The Bucs are the only team in the Big South other than High Point and Gardner-Webb to take the Fighting Camels to five sets this year. With those two wins, Campbell leads the overall series wth Charleston Southern 24-21.

Peyton's Perfect Week
This has been a week to remember for Peyton Thompson. Earlier this week, she was named Big South Player of the Week for her efforts last week, as the Bucs went 1-1 against Presbyterian and Winthrop. She had a combined 29 kills and a .257 hitting percentage in those two matches.

Thompson also took home multiple awards and accolades this season. For the second time in her career, she was named to the First-Team All-Conference team. She was also recognized for what she did off the court. In the classroom, she earned a 4.0 GPA while getting her Master's Degree, giving her a spot on the All-Academic team as well as Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Other Bucs Receive Recognition
Two other Buccaneers received conference honors for their stellar seasons. Indigo Young took home a spot on the All-Conference second team. This season, Young led the conference with a .374 hitting percentage and had 250 kills as well. Skylar Yates was named to the All-Freshman team as put together 38 service aces (third in the conference).
