CSU Plays to 2-2 Draw with High Point

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern built an early 2-0 lead before High Point rallied to gain a 2-2 draw in a Big South match Saturday at the CSU Soccer Field.

The Bucs remained undefeated in their last four games and are 5-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Big South. CSU has 10 points and is tied for second in the conference with Gardner-Webb pending the outcome of USC Upstate's (9 points) game against Longwood later today.

CSU scored twice in the opening 15:11 to take early command of the game. Fiama Hidalgo scored her second goal of the season in the 10th minute after taking a free kick from Kayla Reese, and Jenea Knight made it a two-goal game in the 16th minute when she scored for the team-leading sixth time.

Knight led the Bucs with six shots, including two on target, and CSU held a 17-14 advantage in shots.

The Panthers (3-8-3, 2-2-1 Big South) got back in the game in an unusual manner when a ball directed back to the CSU goal by the Bucs' defense found its way into the net to make it 2-1. Bri Davis then scored for High Point in the 38th minute to create a 2-2 deadlock at halftime.

Both teams had good scoring opportunities over the final 45 minutes, with CSU taking 10 shots and High Point eight during the half, but neither team could break the tie. Sara Curtis finished with four saves for CSU as did Morgan Hairston for High Point.

The Bucs remain home on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game against current Big South leader Campbell.
