The Charleston Southern VolleyBucs are back at home this weekend as they host the USC Upstate Spartans and the UNC Asheville Bulldogs to the Buc Dome for a pair of conference matchups.
After splitting a couple of road games last weekend against Radford and High Point,
David McFatrich's team comes into this weekend with a 9-9 (2-2) record.
CSU has a player leading in five different categories in the Big South: After 27 kills between two games last week,
Peyton Thompson continues to lead the conference with 275 on the season.
Skylar Yates continues her quest for Big South Freshman of the Year this season, as she leads the conference with 29 service aces. Lastly,
Indigo Young leads the Big South with a .369 hitting percentage, and
Angelika Rusin leads the conference in digs with 337.
Emilee Karelse has the most assists in the conference with 570 and is second overall with 9.19 per set. The senior from Belmont, Michigan continues her quest for top 10 in school history in the respective category.
USC Upstate
The Spartans will come into th Buc Dome at 6 p.m. on Friday with a 5-12 (2-2) record this season. Led by Head Coach Ronda Shirley, who is in her fourth season at the helm in Spartanburg, USC Upstate has won two in a row, sweeping their past two matchups against UNC Asheville and South Carolina State. They lead the overall series with the Bucs 4-1. Last time these two teams met was last October, when the Spartans swept the Bucs 3-0.
UNC Asheville
In his 12th season as Head Coach in Asheville, Frederico Santos will lead his 3-11 (0-4) Bulldogs into the Buc Dome for a 2 p.m. battle with the Bucs. They come into this weekend looking to snap their seven-game losing streak. They are looking for their first road win of the season along with their first conference win.
The Bulldogs lead the overall series with the Bucs 42-18, but Charleston Southern won the last matchup with UNC Asheville back on October 22 of last year.
