CLINTON, S.C. – Daniela Contreras scored the only goal of the game early in the second half, and the Charleston Southern defense continued its outstanding play in a 1-0 win over Presbyterian on Tuesday night.
The Bucs won their third in a row, all by shutout, to improve to 5-6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Big South. Since losing its conference opener, CSU has run off 2-0 victories over USC Upstate and UNC Asheville in addition to the win over the Blue Hose.
The victory moved the Bucs into a tie for the Big South lead with Upstate with nine points as the race for playoff berths and seeding begins to take shape. The top four teams at the end of the regular season advance to the conference tournament on November 3 and 6.
Contreras scored her second goal of the season in the 54th minute to snap a scoreless tie, and
Sara Curtis made three saves to preserve the win. Contreras and
Fiama Hidalgo led the Bucs with three of the team's 12 shots, and CSU also earned 12 corner kicks.
Curtis had her fifth shutout of the season while lowering her goals against average to 1.50.Â
CSU returns home for its next two games, facing High Point on Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by a visit from Campbell next Wednesday at 3 p.m.
