VolleyBucs open conference play against Campbell, Hampton

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern volleyball returns to the court Friday and Saturday with its first Big South matches of the season.
 
The Bucs will take on Campbell Friday at 6 p.m. while squaring off with Hampton Saturday at 2 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
In their last time out, the Bucs needed just 74 minutes to sweep South Carolina State (25-11, 25-16, 25-15). Gabrielle Naniseni had a match-high 10 kills, while Emma Minnick had 31 assists for CSU. Charleston Southern had five aces as a team in the three-set sweep.
 
Peyton Thompson leads the Bucs with 106 kills, while Paige Reagor has 81 on a team-leading .400 hitting percentage. Indigo Young and Dayana Chara each have more than 50 kills for a balanced CSU attack. Ashleigh Holweger leads the Bucs with 133 digs and also ranks eighth in the Big South for aces per set. Minnick has a Big South-leading 282 assists and her 8.81 assists per set rank second in the conference.

Campbell – Friday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m.
2020-21 Record: 5-7, 0-0 Big South

Campbell enters the weekend at 5-7 overall. The Camels swept the field in their last tournament at UNCW, dropping just one set in three matches played. In addition to Friday's match against the Bucs, Campbell will also play at Presbyterian Saturday afternoon.
 
Lailah Green leads the Camels with 122 kills and is one of three Camels with 100 or more kills this season. Chloe Cook has 106 kills, while Melody Paige has 100 kills and is hitting a team-leading .349. Madee Miner leads Campbell with 17 aces, while Claranne Fechter has a team-high 193 digs. Miner and Emily Mitter have split the setting duties for the Camels this season, with both posting more than 175 assists through the first 12 matches.
 
Hampton – Saturday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m.
2020-21 Record: 1-6, 0-0 Big South

Hampton enters the weekend at 1-6 overall. The Pirates were swept in their last tournament at UMES, falling to both Saint Francis (Pa.) and the host Hawks. Hampton will play at Presbyterian Friday evening before facing the Bucs Saturday afternoon.
 
Clara Smith leads the Pirates with 71 kills through seven matches, while Gabby Calloway has 66. No other Hampton player has more than 50 kills this season. Brooklyn Irvin has a team-high seven aces and 193 assists, while Jessica Pugh leads the team with 107 digs.
 
This weekend's matches will be Hampton's first Big South contests since the 2019 season. The Pirates opted out of the 2020-21 season.
