CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern volleyball continues their ascent up the Big South standings behind another dominant showing Tuesday afternoon sweeping away UNC Asheville 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 28-26) to remain 4-0 at home.
Dayana Chara led the Buccaneers (7-1, 7-1 Big South) once again with 15 kills and hit .387 while
Paige Reagor hit .550 with 12 kills and
Peyton Thompson had 12 kills, two aces and three blocks – as well as match point – to overpower the Bulldogs (4-6, 4-6 Big South) a second-straight contest.
Charleston Southern hit a season-best .358 from the floor and held the Bulldogs to just .133 with no players getting more than six kills on the afternoon. The Bucs hit .500 out of the gate in a tone-setting 25-13 win before delivering a 25-16 second set victory. UNC Asheville pushed the third set to extra points after falling behind 24-20, but Thompson's 12th and final kill ended the comeback attempt in the third set for a sweep.
Elle McFatrich anchored the Buccaneer backline with 14 digs while
Emma Minnick's 41 assists make her the 11th Buccaneer with 41-plus in a three-set match in program history.
The 7-1 start to the 2021 season is the best in Big South play since 1994 when the Bucs went 7-1 overall. CSU's home sweep of the Bulldogs moved the Bucs to 4-0 at home on the season and still sit just one game out of first place with a huge series looming with High Point next week.
