CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Buccaneer women's soccer team went the distance against Longwood finishing in a 0-0 tie after double overtime. Longwood entered the match up ranked second in the Big South early in the season, dropping to fourth place with the result.
Charleston Southern held the Lancers to only six shots on frame, their lowest attempt since October 26, 2019 when they recorded only four shots on frame in a loss to Gardner-Webb. With the wind against her,
Jenna Moran came up big for the squad, pushing two shots just over the cross bar to keep the game level in the first half. She had a career day in conference play, stopping six shots and playing the full game.
Bursts of offense came near and often from
Bri Robinson and
Emma Ryan, taking a pair of shots each. In the final nineteen minutes of regulation, the pair took three shots combined, forcing the Longwood keeper to make a diving save to stop defeat.
Dakota Fiedler continued to put in work on both sides of the ball, creating scoring opportunities, drawing fouls to set up free kicks, and working back defensively for crucial stops. The Buccaneer defense stood strong, disrupting the pace of play for the Lancers and closing down chances in the final third. All members of the back line played the full 110 minutes.
The Buccaneers will hit be home once again next Sunday as they take on top-ranked High Point at 3 p.m.
