Soccer Picks Up First Win of Gomez Era

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Charleston Southern soccer picked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over the Winthrop Eagles Wednesday night. The win is the first for the Buccaneers since Jose Gomez took the reigns as head coach.

After a fairly even first half, the Buccaneers came out swinging to start the second, outshooting the Eagles 8-1 in the last 45 minutes. Bri Robinson led the charge with three shots in fifteen minutes, finding the back of the net from 25 yards out for the game winner off a ball from Erin Rush. The goal marks the second on the season for Robinson, leading the Bucs. Siera Kirby picked up her first start of the year, and tallied a pair of shots in the win. Kayla Reese also notched two shots, both on frame while five other Bucs put one shot on the stat sheet. Jenna Moran continued domination in the goal, facing five shots and having to make two saves.  The back line for Charleston Southern held it down only allowing two shots anywhere near the goal.

The win marks the first of conference play and improves Charleston Southern to 1-1-1 on the year. This is the teams third win in the past four outings against the Eagles, who fall to 1-2 on the season. Charleston Southern has a quick turn around as they host High Point on Sunday at 3 p.m.
