BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Charleston Southern battled through all three sets but the home Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb took all three for a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23) win in Big South volleyball action from Paul Porter Arena.
Peyton Thompson led all players with 12 kills for Charleston Southern (7-4, 7-4 Big South) but Gardner-Webb (4-9, 4-9 Big South) used 10 service aces and a seven Buccaneer service miscues to squeak-out a tight three-set affair.
Audrey Gun had five aces for the Runnin' Bulldogs and Kylee Garrison had 11 kills to outduel the Buccaneer frontline of Thompson (12 kills) and
Dayana Chara (8 kills). Freshman middle blocker
Kaileigh Ammons had a season-high six kills on the day while
Gabby Naniseni added five, but the Bucs only hit .191 as a team in the loss.
Friday's loss snaps a six-match win streak over the Runnin' Bulldogs dating back to the 2016 season.
