Charleston Southern volleyball hits the road after an extended break with a 4-0 record with sweeps of Winthrop and Radford in their opening series. Thursday and Friday brings a matchup of two of the top-three teams in the Big South standings combining for a 9-1 record overall.
Paige Reagor played a huge key in the Bucs' sweep of Radford finishing with 22 kills, six blocks and hitting .447 as CSU swept all six sets on the road. The win Sunday also gave the Bucs a five-match win streak over the Highlanders dating back to 2018, their longest in series history. Reagor's effort landed her the second Big South Volleyball Player of the Week accolade in as many weeks.
Peyton Thompson and
Dayana Chara have also been key to the VolleyBucs' front line adding 45 and 43 kills each and 21 combined blocks. CSU enters the series T-1st in the standings alongside High Point as the lone unbeaten teams while Campbell enters 5-1 sitting in third place after splitting with Winthrop over the weekend.
Charleston Southern ranks among the top-five in all seven of hitting percentage, opponents' hitting percentage, assists, kills, blocks, service aces and digs and lead the Big South in blocks deterring 2.62 attacks per set. The big three of Reagor, Chara and Thompson pace the No. 2 Big South offense as the Bucs hit .243 while holding opponents to just .120 on defense.
Campbell enters the series after a split with Winthrop taking the first match then dropping the second. The Camels sit third in hitting percentage in the league while boasting the No. 2 defense while leading the league in assists and kills per set.
Campbell was selected third in the Big South Preseason Coaches' Poll as junior outside hitter Sarah Colla was named the Preseason Player of the Year. Colla, the 2018 Big South Freshman of the Year, posted 407 kills and 63 blocks her sophomore season of 2019 and currently sits fifth in the Big South in kills per set.
Thursday and Friday mark the 43rd and 44th meetings all-time between two of the Big South's founding members as the Camels' sweep last season tied the all-time series 21-all. Charleston Southern owns the longest win streak taking the first 14 matchups as well as a 14-12 advantage in Big South regular season meetings. Both matches will be available on ESPN+ with Thursday set for a 6 p.m. start and Friday slated for 2 p.m. from Gore Arena.
