CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's basketball's season has concluded following the announcement of a department-wide pause due to contact tracing.
Monday's overtime win at Presbyterian ends the Buccaneer's season. Due to the pause Charleston Southern will not be able to compete in the First Round of the Big South Championships on Saturday, February 27.
"All season long we talked about how important it is to have a strong 'why.' An individual who knows why they do what they do will have the strength and courage to fight through adversity," said head coach
Barclay Radebaugh on the conclusion of the 2020-21 season. "While I am very disappointed that our season ended so abruptly, I am so thankful that these young men had the opportunity to strengthen their 'why' during a challenging season. We all learned so much and for that I am thankful. I love this team and respect them immensely."
The Bucs finish the season with a 3-18 record overall and 2-15 in the Big South Conference highlighted by career seasons from seniors
Phlandrous Fleming Jr. and
Sean Price along with three appearances on ESPN's flagship program
SportsCenter.
Ja'Quavian Florence's dunk at UNC Asheville was named the No. 1 overall play in that day of sports Jan. 15. Fleming's game-winning three-point basket with 0.6 seconds left in an OT thriller at Presbyterian Monday night made waves as "The Best Thing I Saw Today", a segment on Scott Van Pelt's
SportsCenter.
Fleming ends the season as the first Buccaneer to average 20-plus points since
Saah Nimley did in 2014-15 as a senior while Price paced the Bucs shooting 58% from the floor in a breakout 2020-21 campaign.
