Charleston Southern wasted no time starting the 2021-22 season out on the offensive side of the ball, as The Bucs scored 118 points in their season opener. CSU opened the game on a 16-2 run, taking control from the opening tip.

The Bucs saw a program-record seven players in double-figures in the game, including five players with a team-high 13. A 52% field goal percentage, included 37% from three-point land, led to the high offensive output.

Every player that saw the floor in the opener scored for CSU, a total of 15 scorers.

New Faces, Same Basketball
Transfers
Cheikh Faye and
Tahlik Chavez started in their first career game as a Buc, with Faye recording five points and three boards. Chavez was one of five players with 13 points at the guard position.

Deontaye Buskey and
Travis Anderson both returned to the floor in the opener as well after suffering season-ending injuries a season ago. Buskey ran off 11 points in a row in the second half, finishing with 13 in the game in under 13 minutes. Anderson had a trey in the second half to mark his only points of the game in just seven minutes.

Scouting Ole Miss
The Rebels opened with the University of New Orleans earlier in the week, taking care of business in front of their home crowd 82-61.

Ole Miss also shot at a high clip from the field in the win, recording a 52% field goal percentage from the field and 41% from three-point land.

Austin Crowley led the way on the offensive side, collecting 13 points. Transfers Jaemyn Brakefield (Duke) and Nysier Brooks (Miami (FL)) had good showings in their Ole Miss debut, as Brakefield finished with 10 points and Brooks 11 points and four boards.

The Rebel defense held New Orleans to just 61 points on 44% shooting from the field. Ole Miss led by 12 at the halftime break, and outscored UNO 39-30 in the closing stanza to cruise to the opening night victory.Â
