Late Lancer goal snaps win streak for Bucs

FARMVILLE, Va. – Madison Lockamy scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute Saturday afternoon to send Longwood past Charleston Southern, 1-0, at the Longwood Athletics Complex.

Lockamy's goal was assisted by Kaley Unger and snapped Charleston Southern's shutout streak of 362:44, the program's longest such streak in over a decade. The loss also snapped a three-match win streak for the Bucs.

CSU had opportunities to score, with nine shots and five on target, but Lancer goalkeeper Jordan Horacek made five saves for the shutout. Jenna Moran made seven saves for the Bucs, while Jenea Knight and Daniela Contreras led the team with two shots apiece.

Longwood forced Moran into a pair of early saves and dictated the tempo in the early stages before the Bucs settled in. The Lancers had a 7-5 advantage in shots in the first half, keeping Moran and the CSU backline busy in the opening 45 minutes.

The Lancers came out of the halftime break with a flurry of corner kicks and shots, but Moran was up to the task and kept the match scoreless. Emma Ryan had a shot on target minutes before Longwood's goal, but Horacek saved the attempt. The Lancers struck for the only goal of the match with just over 10 minutes left on the clock as Unger played a pass into the box that Lockamy one-timed into the net. Reese Beggs and Contreras had chances for the Bucs in the last 10 minutes, but neither attempt was on target and the Lancers held on for the 1-0 win.
