CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern scored in both halves Wednesday afternoon while limiting Winthrop to just two shots on target, defeating the Eagles by a 2-0 scoreline at the CSU Soccer Field.
Elizabeth Olsen scored the match-winner in the 20th minute, while
Jenea Knight iced the match with her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 72nd.
Jenna Moran made two saves for her fifth clean sheet of the season and fourth in the last five matches.
CSU took the lead with just its third first-half goal this season, as Olsen headed in a corner kick from
Erin Rush. The Bucs held Winthrop without a shot on target in the first half, while creating a pair of chances of their own in addition to the Olsen goal.
Winthrop started to attack the right flank to begin the second half before a pair of yellow cards, one on each team, took away the momentum. The Buccaneers continued to frustrate the Winthrop attack, which wasn't able to generate anything for a stretch of nearly 30 minutes aside from a corner kick early in the half.
The Bucs iced the game when Knight dribbled past multiple defenders in the middle of the field and fired a screamer into the bottom left corner. Winthrop had both of its shots on goal come after the Bucs went up by a pair, but Moran saved both with no issues, leading CSU to its third consecutive home win.
