CHARLESTON, S.C. – Lily McLane and Kat Parris scored six minutes apart in the first half Saturday afternoon to lead Radford over Charleston Southern, 2-0, in the final regular season game for both teams.
Jenna Moran made six saves in the loss for the Bucs, who honored seven seniors –
Dakota Fiedler,
Maddie Reilly,
Erin Rush,
Grace Gompers,
Mason Pinkerton,
Emily Kifer and
Siera Kirby – before the match.
CSU had the first opportunity of the match, but
Kayla Reese sent a shot off a free kick well over the crossbar. From there, Radford put pressure on the Buccaneer backline and forced Moran into four early saves before Parris connected with McLane for the game's opening goal. The Highlanders quickly doubled their lead on a strike from outside the box by Parris that dipped into the bottom right corner.
The Buccaneers had a prime opportunity to score late in the half, but
Lauren McDonald's header off a corner kick was saved. CSU had an early second-half chance as well, but Reese's shot was saved and
Bri Robinson was unable to get anything on a follow-up attempt. The Bucs were unable to put a shot on target after that opportunity, as Radford's backline stiffened and kept CSU off the board.
