CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern volleyball hits the road for the first time in more than two weeks when it travels to UNC Asheville Friday evening and USC Upstate Saturday afternoon.
The Bucs are looking to get back in the win column last weekend after dropping home matches to High Point and North Carolina A&T last week. CSU was either tied or ahead late in each of the first three sets against the league-leading Panthers. North Carolina A&T hit over .400 in each of the first two sets and took advantage of 19 Buccaneer attack errors last weekend in a three-set win.
Peyton Thompson led the Bucs with 30 kills in the two matches, while
Paige Reagor had 19.
Emma Minnick had 64 assists across the two matches.
Thompson leads the Bucs with 236 kills, while Reagor has 154 on a .306 hitting percentage.
Ashleigh Holweger leads the Bucs with 244 digs, while Minnick has a conference-leading 565 assists to pace the Bucs in that statistic this season.
This Week's Scouting Report
UNC Asheville – Friday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m.
2020-21 Record: 4-13, 2-6 Big South
UNC Asheville enters the weekend at 4-13 overall and 2-6 in Big South play. The Bulldogs have lost three straight and were swept last week by USC Upstate and Radford.
Molly Hackett leads the Bulldogs with 180 kills, while Peyton McClinton has 174. Grace Volk leads the team with 457 assists, and five different Bulldogs have more than 100 digs.
Charleston Southern won both matches between the schools last year, winning the first one in five sets and sweeping the second match.
USC Upstate – Saturday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.
2020-21 Record: 10-12, 6-3 Big South
USC Upstate enters the weekend at 10-12 overall and 6-3 in Big South play. The Spartans are 4-1 in their last five matches, with the lone loss being a setback at Radford last weekend.
Kelly Wiedemann leads the Spartans with 212 kills, with three other Upstate players also recording more than 100. Allie Hamsher and Emma McElveen have split the setting duties this season, with both recording more than 300 assists. Mackenzie Marcum, Wiedemann and Breeana Gamueda have all eclipsed the 200-dig mark this season.
Charleston Southern and USC Upstate have not played since the 2019 season, a four-set win for the Spartans in Spartanburg.
