Weekend Preview
The Charleston Southern Volleyball team hits the road to Jacksonville this Friday to participate in their third tournament of the season at the River City Rumble where they will take on Belmont, LIU and co-host Jacksonville.


Friday will see a pair of matches against Jacksonville and Belmont at Swisher Gym on the campus of Jacksonville University, while Saturday will feature a single match against the LIU Sharks on the campus of UNF.

The Bucs return to the court on a two-game win streak with senior Brooke Monssen leading the team in kills with 74 while holding the number two spot in the Big South Conference. 

 

A pair of freshman have made an immediate impact for the Buccaneers in the first seven matches. Carsyn Starr has tallied 72 kills in addition to eight blocks while Emilee Karelse has assisted on 132 kills and added nine aces to the offense. 

 

Defensively, Skylar Blackmon has been the standard on serve receive percentage and digs, racking up 73 so far.

 
Opponent Preview

Jacksonville 
Jacksonville is coming off a loss against Troy that puts them at 1-5 on the season with their lone win coming against Chattanooga.

 

In the loss, Briana Kipp finished the day with three blocks, while Lexi Wierzbicki (9 kills) and Bailey Foy (7 kills, 2 blocks) combined for 16 kills. Senior Natalie Wehner added a team-high 10 digs in the effort.

 

Foy was named to the Troy Invitational All-Tournament Team for the Dolphins.

The Bucs are 1-8 all time against the Dolphins with their most recent victory coming in 1990 in a five-set victory. 

 
Belmont
The Bruins enter the tournament 1-7, coming off a loss to Lipscomb in three sets. 

 

For the match, Lauren Walsh led the Bruins with 11 kills. Junior Akia Warrior finished with 36 assists while sophomore Peyton Kelley posted a career-best 24 digs. Freshman Kailee Bass recorded a match-high three block assists.

 

This will be the first match up for Belmont against Charleston Southern.
 
Long Island University
The Sharks enter the tournament 0-6, coming off a recent lost to Sam Houston State in three sets.

 

In the match, Kara Schaberl posted a match-high 12 kills for the Sharks and contributed seven digs. Dixon dished out 12 assists and senior Amanda Hubbard added eight assists. Defensively, Strongman recorded a pair of blocks and senior Natalia Rivera recorded nine digs.

 

With the combination of LIU and LIU Brooklyn, this will be the first official meeting against the LIU Sharks and the Buccaneers.
