WILMINGTON, N.C. – In their first outing of the year, the Buccaneer Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to North Florida and Duquesne.
In the first match of the day, the Buccaneers dropped their contest to North Florida in straight sets.
How It Happened (North Florida 3, CSU 0)
- The two teams got off to an even start in the first set with a pair of Brooke Monssen kills and a service ace from Skylar Blackmon.
- Despite the even start, the Osprey would pull away and go on a three-point spree to finish off the first.
- In the second set, the Bucs wouldn't be able to overcome errors, falling by a final score of 13-25.
- As the Bucs tried to keep the match alive in the third set, the Osprey would tally three service aces and close the game.
- Brooke Monssen led both teams with 13 kills to go with four digs. Alexa Lister finished the match with six kills on nine attempts, hitting .556.
How It Happened (Duquesne 3, CSU 1)
- Duquesne began the match with a 25-17 victory over the Bucs after hitting .419 in the first set.
- Alexa Lister would secure the second-set victory for the Bucs after tallying three blocks against the Dukes. CSU took the set by a final score of 25-23.
- In the third set, Duquesne garnered an eight-point lead and wouldn't turn back firing off a .303 hitting percentage as a team.
- Monssen continued to lead the team offensively with 14 kills to go with a service ace and seven digs.
- Freshmen Rachel Feggeler and Carsyn Starr shined in the loss both tallying 11 kills apiece.
- Sophomore setter, Ashleigh Holweger recorded 23 assists to go with seven digs while freshman Emilee Karelse picked up 15 assists and a pair of service aces.
The Buccaneers will return to action tomorrow to take on UNC Wilmington at 12:00 p.m. in Hanover Hall.
