CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern swept past visiting Gardner-Webb on Monday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex as CSU remained undefeated in Big South Conference play with a 7-0 win over the Runnin' Bulldogs.
The Buccaneers improved to 7-1 overall on the season, 3-0 at home at the Buc Tennis Complex and 3-0 in Big South Conference play on the season following their victory over the Runnin' Bulldogs. Gardner-Webb falls to 3-5, 0-3 in conference play with the loss.
CSU swept all three doubles courts to open play on Monday afternoon with Marketa Placha and Sophie Cloessner topping Sarah Rieckmann and Catherine White on court no. 3, 8-3. Angelica Sidorenko and Mi'Kola Cooper followed with an 8-2 win over Yasmin Doost and Stina Magnusson on court no. 1, while Yvonne Hubler and Nicolin Luecke completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over Mary Mixon and Rokia Sacko on court no. 2.
Singles play was also a sweep for the Bucs as CSU took all six matches in straight sets with Placha, Hubler, Sidorenko, Cooper, Cloessner and Valeria Koussenkova all recording the individual wins on the afternoon.
Sidorenko opened the action with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Magnusson on court no. 1, while Cooper finished shortly after on court no. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Koussenkova put the Bucs ahead 4-0 with her 6-0, 6-2 win on court no. 6 over Teodora Stanciu in her first Big South match of the season.
Placha topped Doost on court no. 1 6-3, 6-1 to remain undefeated in conference play on the year, while Hubler defeated Sacko on court no. 2, 6-0, 6-3. Cloessner closed out play with a 7-5, 6-3 victory on court no. 5 to complete CSU's third sweep of the season and first at home.
Charleston Southern has a quick turnaround time as the Buccaneers host East Tennessee State tomorrow morning with first serve in doubles play scheduled for 10 a.m.
