CHARLESTON – On Thursday, Charleston Southern hosted another Big South Conference opponent, the Longwood Lancers. CSU suffered its first Big South regular season loss since April of 2023, losing 4-2.

The Buccaneers struck first in singles play behind a dominant performance at the top of the lineup. Marina Skegro set the tone with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 victory over Bali Song, giving CSU an early boost. Amike Botha followed with a strong straight-set win of her own, edging out Nicole Di Bisceglia in a tightly contested 7-6, 6-4 decision to put the Bucs ahead 2-1 overall.

Longwood, however, capitalized on depth and resilience to secure the team victory. Brenda Yoris opened her match with a convincing first-set win before Longwood's Hima Fernando responded, taking the final two sets 6-0, 6-1. Carlota Farres Carreter also started strong with a 6-2 opening set, but Longwood's Feline van Eijkelenburg rallied to claim the next two sets and the match.

Camila Molina Barranco forced a decisive third set after splitting the first two, but Alexandra Magia regained control in the final frame to clinch another point for Longwood.

In doubles action, the CSU-pairing of Skegro and Farres delivered a convincing 6-2 victory to open play, but Longwood answered with wins on courts two and three to secure the doubles point and take the early 1-0 advantage.
