Buccaneers drop Big South matchup at UNC Asheville, 1-0

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Courtney Nabor scored in the 83rd minute for host UNC Asheville as Charleston Southern fell on the road in Big South Conference play on Wednesday night at the Greenwood Soccer Field, 1-0.

The Buccaneers fired 14 shots and had eight corner kicks in the contest paced by Anna Sells' three shots on goal, but CSU was unable to find the back of the net in falling to 3-5-2, 1-3 in Big South play with the loss. Asheville improves to 9-4, 3-2 in conference play with the win.

Alyssa Dellacqua recorded her third consecutive double-digit save effort in the match as the reigning Big South Defensive Player of the Week finished the evening with 10 saves. Her counterpart in the net, Lily Brown, also had 10 saves for Asheville in recording the win.

CSU challenged early in a back-and-forth first half with Sells putting the first shot on net at the 4:24 mark, but her shot was saved by Brown. Overall the teams traded 17 shots in the first period, but Dellacqua and Brown kept the match scoreless with Dellacqua stopping Asheville's Caroline Houser at the 44:48 mark to end the half.

The match remained scoreless until the 83rd minute when Emma Houser found Courtney Naber for the go-ahead goal. Houser intercepted the CSU pass and found Naber who beat Dellacqua from the top of the box to put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0.

CSU was unable to score in the final minutes as the Bulldogs closed out the shutout win.

Charleston Southern returns home this weekend as the Buccaneers host Francis Marion in non-conference play at the CSU Soccer Field. Kickoff between the Bucs and the Patriots is set for 4 p.m.
