Soccer Preview: Bucs host Coastal Carolina for Senior Day; CSU to recognize seniors during halftime ceremony

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern returns home to the CSU Soccer Field for Senior Day as the Bucs host Coastal Carolina on Tuesday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m., with Senior Day festivities taking place during halftime.

Charleston Southern Match Notes

Series History...
This is the 15th time the Buccaneers and Chanticleers have faced off against each other since the CSU program came into existence in the 1993 season. Overall CSU has a 8-3-3 record against Coastal Carolina, and a 4-1-2 at the CSU Soccer Field. The Bucs have won four of their last five matches at home against the Chants, including a 2-1 win on October 23, 2012 to propel CSU into the playoffs.

Scouting the Chanticleers...
Coastal Carolina enters the Tuesday afternoon match with a 9-7-2 overall record, 6-2-1 in Big South Conference play on the season. The Chanticleers are currently second in the conference and are coming off of a 1-0 win over Big South leader Liberty this past weekend.

Coastal Carolina's win over Liberty bounced the Chants back from back-to-back road losses against UNC Asheville and Radford. In non-conference play, Coastal Carolina went 3-5-1 on the season with wins over The Citadel, Charlotte and Wofford. The Chants have struggled on the road with a 1-5-2 record away from Conway, S.C. with their lone road win coming at Gardner-Webb on October 1st, with CCU winning 4-1.

Kacey Kelley leads Coastal Carolina with 11 goals scored on the season as the senior forward is second in the Big South on the season. Daniella Famili and Shelby Evans also have multiple goals on the season with three goals apiece. Darbie Kelley sets up the CCU offense with a team-high five assists, whiel Kacey Kelley has four assists on the season for the Chants.

Defensively, Faith Farley leads the Chants with a 0.97 goals against average and a .810 saves percentage. Becca Austin has split time inside the net with a 1.04 goals against average and 25 saves on the season.

Charleston Southern closed out the 2013 regular season on the road, falling 1-0 at the hands of Coastal Carolina in a Big South Conference match on Tuesday evening at the Coastal Carolina Soccer Complex.

The host Chants outshot the Bucs 33-14 overall on the evening. However, another great performance inside the net by Caitlin Cody (14 saves), give the Bucs reason to look forward to the upcoming tournament slate. 

Player Watch...
Anna Sells, CSU, So., Forward
Sells, a sophomore from Greenville, N.C., has made the most of her season at the top of the CSU lineup with a team-high 10 goals and an assist on the season. The forward has scored in four of CSU's five wins on the season, including the game-winning goal against S.C State. In Big South play on the season, Sells assisted on Erica Gazzani's goal against Liberty, and has scored against both UNC Asheville and Winthrop. For the season, Sells among the Big South leaders in multiple categories, including sitting third in goals scored, third in shots and third in points on the season. 

Lydia Frierson, CSU, Fr., Midfielder
Frierson, a freshman from Laurel, Md., has come on strong over the last five games with three goals in Big South play coming against Winthrop, Gardner-Webb and High Point. Frierson has taken advantage of several great breaks, stealing the ball from the goalkeeper in scoring against both Winthrop and High Point, while adding a goal on the scramble from Kelly Hinkle's corner kick. Scoring goals has come naturally to the Chapelgate Christian alum as she scored 129 career goals during her four year high school career. 

There's No Place Like Home...
The Buccaneers proved to be a tough out last season at home and have continued that trend so far this season with a 4-3 record overall so far. CSU finished with a 6-3 record at home in the 2013 season.

Caitlin Cody passed another mark in the Big South record books and Lydia Frierson scored her third goal of the season on Saturday evening, but Charleston Southern was unable to comeback from two first half Gardner-Webb goals as the Buccaneers fell on the road to the Runnin' Bulldogs, 2-1. 

Cody moved into sixth all-time in the Big South women's soccer record books on Saturday night at Greene-Harbison Field as the redshirt senior goalkeeper passed Nadine Henchcliffe (UMBC, 1993-95) and Karen Blocker (Liberty, 2008-12) with her 340th career save midway through the second half. Cody finished the match with four saves to sit in sole possession of sixth place all-time in Big South history heading into Tuesday's final match.

Head Coach Eric Terrill passed another career milestone with the Buccaneers, recording his 150th career win at CSU after the season opening 3-1 victory over SCAD. The all-time winningest Bucs soccer coach is in his 20th season at Charleston Southern, and is the second winningest coach in Big South Conference history, behind current Radford head coach Ben Sohrabi.

Caitlin Cody reached another career milestone this past Wednesday against Campbell, recording her 300th career save at CSU in the 13th minute of the contest. The redshirt senior goalkeeper from Knoxville, Tenn. stopped 10 shots during the contest in becoming only the second CSU player and 10th player in Big South Conference history to achieve the 300 mark. Cody, who led the NCAA Division I with 167 saves in 2012, is playing in her final regular season games to improve to her totals.
