Bucs host Radford in Big South home opener on Saturday

Box Score

CHARLESTON, S.C. - With four of their past five games on the road, the Charleston Southern women's soccer team looks forward to returning to Charleston this weekend as the Buccaneers open up their 2013 Big South home schedule with their opener on Saturday afternoon against Radford.

Kickoff between the Bucs and the Highlanders inside Blackbaud Stadium is set for 4 p.m., with the game being streamed live on The Big South Network.

The Buccaneers have struggled during their past stretch, falling in four of their past five games in going 0-4-1 during the run, with the lone tie coming on the road against Georgia Southern. CSU however, looks to rebound from the stretch as the Bucs host their next two contests at home where Charleston Southern currently boasts a 3-1 record in the 2013 season.

Overall, the Bucs enter Saturday's matchup with a 3-5-1 record and have been led offensively on the season by senior forward Toni Lashley, as well as sophomores Chelsea Phillips and Chelsea Frankeny.

Lashley paces the CSU offense with four goals on the season, while Phillips and Frankeny have three apiece for the Bucs as Charleston Southern started out the gates on fire this year in leading the Big South in goals scored over the first two weeks of the season. Freshman forward Anna Sells also has two goals on the season, while midfielder Emma Faubert leads the way with three assists on the year.

Freshman goalkeeper Dana McLaughlin continues to lead the Buccaneers in the net, while junior Caitlin Cody is back in the mix for playing time, seeing action in the Bucs' match against Mercer. The duo have combined for a .810 save percentage and a 1.71 goals against average on the year, with McLaughlin picking up both shutouts on the season for CSU.

Last season against Radford, the Highlanders were able to pick up the 3-0 victory at home against the Bucs behind, two goals by Julie Ruh'e, while Sahar Aflaki added a second half goal as Radford topped Charleston Southern in Big South Conference play.

Radford features a balanced attack this season in posting a 5-1-1 record on the year, including a 1-0 win in double overtime in their Big South opener on Wednesday against Presbyterian.

Six players have scored multiple goals on the year, including Melanie Priestly, Sahar Aflaki, Britney Kendall, Sydney Golden, Rachel Conway and Jasmine Sampson, while Che' Brown returns to man the goal for the Highlanders, allowing four goals in six contests on the year.

Radford leads the all-time series, 14-6-5, dating back to the 1993 season when the teams first battled each other.
