Lewis connected on the first goal of the contest, drilling the ball into the net in the seventh minute of the game, but Samantha Phillips, Kelsey Pardue and Olivia Colella all followed with goals in the next 18 minutes of play to give the Lancers a lead they would not relinquish as CSU saw their two-match conference winning streak come to an end.

Phillips recorded the first shot of the contest at the 2:09 mark for Longwood, but Charleston Southern was the first on the board as Lewis connected on the first two shots for CSU. The senior midfielder's attempt at the 3:47 mark was turned away by Hall, but her second attempt sailed into the lower right corner of the net for the first goal of the contest. Lewis beat Hall in a one-on-one at the 6:36 mark to give the Bucs the early 1-0 lead.

Longwood answered on their next shot of the contest with Phillips putting in the game-tying shot at the 10:28 mark in the first half. Her shot attempt came from the top of the box, going over McLaughlin for her fourth goal of the season to knot the match up at 1-1.

Two minutes later Pardue struck off the assist from Amanda Spencer to put the Lancers ahead 2-1 with 12:55 on the clock. The Lancers used the give-and-go in the box with Spencer finding Pardue for the shot past McLaughlin to give Longwood the lead.

Longwood continued to pepper the net with shots, putting five shots toward the goal with four on target, but McLaughlin recorded four saves before Olivia Colella found the back of the net at the 25:05 mark to give the Lancers a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish. Gina D'Orazio played the ball into the box with a cross from the left wing, with Colella deflecting the pass into the net for her second goal of the season.
