CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern's shooting struggles
continued as the Lady Flames ran past the Lady Bucs on Thursday
evening inside the Buc Dome, 92-33.
The Lady Bucs fall to 5-8, 0-4 in Big South Conference play in
the loss. Liberty improves to 12-5 on the season, 4-1 in conference
action in the 2012-2013 year.
Lakeitha Alston scored a game-high 20 points for the Lady Bucs
in the loss as Charleston Southern shot 19.0 percent from the floor
as a team. DJ Fowler added seven points and one blocked shot for
CSU as the Lady Bucs fell in conference play for the fourth time
this season.
Ashley Rininger and Brittany Campbell led the way for Liberty
with 14 points apiece for the Lady Flames, while Jasmine Gardner
(13) and Devon Brown (12) were also in double-digits in the scoring
category. Rininger completed the double-double with 10 rebounds,
while Tolu Omotola narrowly missed out on one of her own with eight
points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Liberty took control of the game early in the first half, going
up 10 with 16:12 to play following a jumper by Jasmine Gunn as the
Lady Flames went ahead 12-2. The lead reached 20 with 6:33 to play
in the half following a three-pointer by Emily Frazier as Liberty
held the Lady Bucs scoreless for an 8:20 stretch in the first half
in building a 45-17 halftime lead.
Charleston Southern and Liberty traded baskets for the first
eight minutes of the second half as the Lady Flames extended their
lead to 36 with 12:28 to play following back-to-back layups by
Rininger to put the score at 65-29. Following a three-pointer by
Alston with 11:42 on the clock, the Lady Bucs shooting touch went
cold as CSU struggled to hit from the floor the rest of the way as
Liberty closed out the win.
Charleston Southern continues Big South Conference play at home
this weekend as the Lady Bucs host Longwood on Saturday afternoon.
Tipoff between the Lady Bucs and the Lancers is set for 2 p.m.
Liberty returns home to take on Coastal Carolina, also on Saturday,
with tipoff in Lynchburg, Va. set for 2 p.m.
